What’s the best year for a used Nissan Maxima?

My mom drives a 2021 Nissan Maxima, and I love her car. I want to buy a Maxima too, but I’m looking at them used. What’s the best year for a used Nissan Maxima? Are there years I should avoid?

As is true with any vehicle, there are some best years for a used Nissan Maxima, and a few bad years worth avoiding. First, a few years to avoid. 2004 and 2005, 2008 through 2014, and 2016 are all model years you should stay away from.
Recalls, mechanical problems, lackluster features—Nissan Maxima fans weren’t too happy with those model years. It’s best to just avoid them!
All other model years are great though, and you can’t go wrong with any of them so long as the car is in good condition. Arguably the best years for a used Nissan Maxima include 2017, 2021, and 2022. Of course, the newer your car is the heftier the price tag gets, and buying a used 2022 Nissan Maxima might not make sense given the prices of brand new 2023 models.
We hope all of this information proves useful in your car search. And be sure to read our guide explaining how to check if a used car is a lemon, too. It can save you a lot of headaches when you’re shopping for a used car!
