What's the best route from NYC to LA?

I’ve never seen the Pacific Ocean before and I want my first time to be in Los Angeles. I currently live in New York City. If I plan to drive, what’s the best way to get from NYC to LA?

Covering 13 states, four time zones, 2,800 miles, and lasting 41 hours, the trip from
New York City
to
Los Angeles
is quite the journey. Once you see the Pacific Ocean for the first time, though, you’ll be glad you made the trip. Here’s the best route from NYC to LA:
  • Hop on I-80 West out of NYC
  • Near Cleveland, I-80 merges into I-90
  • Continue on I-80/I-90 until you get to exit 21 near
    Portage
    , Indiana for I-94 West
  • In the southwest suburbs of
    Chicago
, you’ll stay on I-94, but it merges into I-294 and then I-80
  • Take exit 102 off I-80 to get on I-76 toward
    Denver
  • I-76 will merge into I-70 just north of Denver
  • I-70 dead-ends into I-15 in Utah, so take I-15 South
  • Ride on I-15 South to exit 109A for I-10 West
  • Take that right into the city
