What’s the best route from New York to Boston?

My family and I are from a small beach town in Oregon but we are heading east for our annual vacation. My parents are bickering over the best navigation routes while we’re there. Could you tell me the best route from New York City to Boston and settle the debate?

Oh boy, prepare for a lot of traffic! The best and most direct route from
New York City
to
Boston
takes I-84 E to I-90 E—totaling approximately 215 miles.
Here’s a breakdown of the route:
  • Head out of the city and merge onto I-95 N
  • Keep left and stay on I-95 for approximately 43 miles
  • Take exit 27A for CT-25/CT-8 (look for signs toward Trumbull/Waterbury)
  • Continue on CT-25/CT-8 N
  • Take exit 9 and merge onto CT-15 N/Merrit Pkwy
  • Continue on CT-15 for about 30 miles, then take exit 68 N-E and merge onto I-91 N (follow signs for CT-66 E/Hartford/Middletown)
  • Take exit 29 for US-5 N after 17 miles
  • US-5 N with turn into CT-15
  • Take the exit on the left onto I-84 E toward Boston
You will cross over into
Massachusetts
about five miles after taking the exit! Next, you will:
  • Keep right to stay on I-84 E for 36 miles
  • Take the exit onto I-90 E toward Boston/N.H. - Maine
  • Stay on I-90 E for about 56 miles
  • Take exit 134A-134B-135C on the left, then continue onto 134B
  • Follow signs for I-93 N (Concord NH)
  • Take exit 17 for Government Ctr toward Quincy Mkt and enjoy your time in Boston!
Don’t forget to bring money for tolls! It’s also a good idea to revisit your insurance coverage before heading out.
