What’s the best route from Miami to Tampa?

How long will it take me to drive from Miami to Tampa? Is it a reasonable commute for a job that meets in person twice a week at most, or should I look in other areas closer to me?

It will take you about four hours to drive from Miami to Tampa, although the actual timeline of your trip will depend heavily on traffic. This is a pretty intense drive, but here is the best route to follow:
  • Take I-95 N and I-95 Express out of Miami
  • Merge onto Florida’s Turnpike towards Turnpike
  • Exit towards Ft. Lauderdale, then follow the signs for FL-84 W/I-595 W
  • Exit towards Naples and merge onto I-75 N
  • Exit towards FL-618, then continue onto FL-618 Toll/Selmon Expressway
  • Take exit 8 and follow the signs for your desired part of the city
