What’s the best route from Dallas to Orlando?

I got two weeks off next month from work and I’m planning on doing a last minute trip to Orlando for the majority of it. I hate planes, though. What’s the best driving route from Dallas to Orlando?

With the stress of baggage fees, security lines, and tight connections, there are certainly some things to hate about plane travel—totally understandable that you prefer the road!
That said, your best route from
Dallas
to
Orlando
will usually look like this:
  • Take I-20 E out of
    Texas
    and into
    Louisiana
  • In
    Shreveport
, hop on I-49 S and continue into
    Lafayette
  • Transfer to I-10 E until
    Baton Rouge
then switch over to I-12 E
  • Get back on I-10 E in
    Slidell
    , then take it through
    Mississippi
    ,
    Alabama
    , and into Florida
  • Hop on I-75 S near Winfield, then head south until you hit Florida’s Turnpike
  • Take the Turnpike into Orlando
You can alternatively take I-20 E straight through Louisiana, hop on US 49 S in
Pearl, MS
, then link up with I-10 E in
Mobile
via I-59 S and US-98 S. Whichever path you choose, your trip time will come to around 16 to 17 hours depending on traffic—to be safe, you’ll probably want to break this up into at least two driving days, preferably three.
To prepare yourself for the trip, research the highways and interstates you plan on using for any construction, roadwork, or tolls that might affect your travel. Complementary to this, make sure you and your car are well-protected with quality car insurance coverage—
