There are two main routes between California and Texas—the high route along I-40 and the low route along I-10—but the best one is along I-40 E and takes you through the lower part of New Mexico and Arizona.
Here are some of the best things to check out along the drive:
  • NASA Johnson Space Center
  • Newman’s Castle
  • Carlsbad Caverns National Park
  • Mad Jack’s Mountaintop Barbecue
  • White Sands National Park
  • Saguaro National Park
The drive between California and Texas takes a little over 21 hours, so you’ll want to make a few pit stops to catch some rest and stretch your legs.
