What's the best driving route from San Francisco to Yosemite?

I grew up in San Francisco and, outside of going to Napa Valley and Oakland, I’ve never really been anywhere else. I thought I’d soak in some of the state’s natural scenery this year on my vacation. What’s the best route from San Francisco to Yosemite?

Experiencing more of the world around you is a great idea! You’re lucky enough to live near places like
San Francisco
and Yosemite. Here’s the best driving route from San Francisco to Yosemite:
  • Take I-80 East across the Bay Bridge.
  • Take exit 8B to get onto I-580.
  • Merge onto I-205 off I-580.
  • Merge onto I-5 North.
  • Take exit 461 for CA-120 East and follow it all the way to the entrance of Yosemite National Park.
In total, the trip is about 170 miles and should take you approximately 3 to 3.5 hours.
Due to the remote location of Yosemite National Park, you may want to consider
towing and labor coverage
