Driving from Atlanta, Georgia to New Orleans, Louisiana is about a 7 hour drive along I-85 S, I-65 S, and I-10 W, covering 470 miles. There’s plenty to see on the road from Hot’lanta to the Big Easy, so here are the highlights:
  • Before you leave Atlanta, make sure you grab plenty of edible items infused with peaches (this is the Peach State, after all), be they jams, pies, cobbler, ice creams, jellies etc.
  • Hop on I-85 S before stopping in Montgomery, Alabama and pay a visit to The Rosa Parks Museum
  • Head down I-65 S and stop in Mobile and carouse around on the USS Alabama, a World War Two-era battleship that’s anchored in Mobile Bay
  • Now, drive west along I-10 along the Gulf Coast and make a stop in Slidell, Louisiana, and stroll through Old Towne, with its quirky boutiques and restaurants, historic homes, antique stores and bumpin’ bars
  • Rattle in to New Orleans, take a carriage ride through the French Quarter, grab some gumbo and a few beignets, wobble down Bourbon Street, and see some alligators in City Park—the only place to spot alligators within the city of New Orleans
