What’s a 2012 Nissan Sentra’s oil type?

My 2012 Nissan Sentra is officially a decade old! It also happens to have a lot of miles on it and so I’m trying to increase the number of oil changes to keep things running smoothly. I’m going to start rotating taking my car into the shop and doing oil changes myself so that I can save some money. What type of oil am I going to need?

That’s a great idea—the savings will really start to add up! The 2012
Nissan Sentra
takes 5W-30 viscosity oil. You’ll want to use fully synthetic to keep the engine and other vital components free of particulate and other pollutants that can cause
corrosion
and other damage.
You can use conventional oil, but your engine won’t be kept in the best shape and will also need to be changed more frequently. Here are the oil change recommendations based on the type of oil you use:
  • Synthetic motor oil: 7,500 to 10,000 miles
  • Conventional motor oil: 3,000 to 5,000 miles
Don’t forget to also change out the
oil filter
