What year was the first Chevrolet Avalanche K1500?

I had a Chevy Avalanche K1500 when I was younger. Maybe I’m feeling nostalgic, but I’m in the market for a car, and I put the Avalanche at the top of the list. I want to own a piece of history, so a debut model is my preference. What year did the first Chevrolet Avalanche K1500 come out?

The first Chevrolet Avalanche K1500 came out in 2002 and quickly garnered universal acclaim. It won the North American SUV of the Year award, as well as Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year for 2002, so it’s no surprise that you have fond memories of the vehicle.
If you’re not aware, the K1500 nameplate simply means four-wheel drive, as opposed to the C1500, which was rear-wheel drive. The K1500 also offered high and low four-wheel drive, giving you even more traction off-road or in wintry conditions.
The indecisive buyer will love that the ‘02 Chevrolet Avalanche only came in one trim, which makes the buying process easier. Other features of the inaugural model included:
  • 285-hp, 5.3-liter Vortec V-8
  • Leather upholstery
  • 16-inch alloy wheels
  • Power driver’s seat
  • Six-speaker audio system with AM/FM/CD
