The year the first Buick Encore Preferred
was available was 2017, four years after the birth of the Buick Encore subcompact crossover SUV. In 2017, the trim levels for the Encore were revamped and the Preferred was introduced as the first level trim above the base model. The Encore had six trim levels that year:
The Preferred trim added nothing except for all-wheel drive, which was offered on all the other higher trim levels as well. In 2018, the Preferred trim added a couple of insignificant features like a rear cargo cover.
The Preferred spent its first few years as a low mid-level trim, before becoming the top-level trim in 2021. It was also the only trim level in 2021 above the base model. Then, in a stunning fall from grace, the Preferred became the base model for 2022.
