What year was the first BMW 320i?

I was asking my coworker about his car the other day, and he told me he drives a BMW 320i. I could swear that my dad drove one of these back in the ‘70s, but I can’t remember for sure. What year was the first BMW 320i?

The year the first
BMW 320i
was manufactured was 1975. However, the modern 320i is much different than your dad’s car.
The original 320i was part of the automaker’s first generation of its 3 Series models, which ran from 1975 to 1981. They were so wildly popular that BMW sold approximately 1.3 million cars.
The first 320i included a fuel-injected 2.0-liter engine with 123 horsepower—which was pretty powerful for 1975! It had a two-door design, rear-wheel drive, four-speed transmission, twin headlights, and distinctive profile, featuring a raised tail end. It was also one of the first vehicles to include the Hofmeister kink, a forward-facing nook at the bottom of the car’s rear pillar, which was named after BMW’s design director and lives on in many of today’s BMWs.
