What speed is considered reckless driving in North Carolina?

I’m a huge NASCAR fan and I live in North Carolina. This summer, I want to go to the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. However, I get amped up when I’m going to a race and I tend to speed. How fast do you have to be going to get a reckless driving ticket in North Carolina?

Watching NASCAR can definitely put a little extra pep in your step behind the wheel. No set speed is considered reckless driving in
North Carolina
. Many North Carolinians believe that going 15 mph over the speed limit qualifies, but this isn’t true.
However, going 15 mph over the speed limit will result in a heavier fine and up to 15 days in jail. So avoiding speeding altogether is your best bet.
In North Carolina, reckless driving is:
  • Driving carelessly and heedlessly in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of other individuals
  • Driving without due caution and circumspection and at a speed or in a manner that endangers or is likely to endanger a person or property
In either case, being charged with reckless driving is entirely up to the officer who pulls you over. If you’re convicted of reckless driving in North Carolina, you will get a Class 2 misdemeanor and may face these penalties:
  • Four points on your driver’s license
  • Up to 60 days in jail
  • Fines of up to $1,000
By driving carefully, you shouldn’t have to worry about any tickets or charges. But if you get convicted, your car insurance rates are likely to increase. That’s when
