What speed is considered reckless driving in Indiana?
I sometimes notice myself going pretty fast on the highway in Indiana to keep up with the flow of traffic. I’m worried that if a cop pulls me over, I could get a reckless driving ticket for speeding excessively. How fast do you have to go for it to be considered reckless driving in Indiana?

It’s always tricky when the flow of traffic exceeds the limit—but don’t give into the pressure of other drivers!
Rather, a prosecutor will classify your speeding as reckless driving if you’re endangering the safety of others or disrupting the flow of traffic. Yes, this means you can actually get charged with reckless driving for driving too slow in Indiana.
Typically, reckless driving tickets are handed out in situations such as these:
- A driver is speeding 30 mph over the limit and weaving in and out of traffic
- A driver is speeding 26 mph over the limit in a school zone
- A driver is going 80 mph and disregarding pedestrians on crosswalks
There is currently talk of standardizing reckless driving to a speed of 25 mph or higher over the maximum speed limit on a highway. However, this is still up for debate.
