Here’s a look at the most common speaker sizes you’ll come across:
- 4x6 speakers: Budget-friendly; typically used on the dash.
- 5.25 speakers: Small; often used on the back doors or in the back dash; helps improve the sound of larger speakers.
- 5x7 speakers: Fits a wide range of vehicles; good all-around option.
- 6x8 speakers: Typically on front car doors; budget-friendly; best option to improve sound’s depth and clarity.
- 6.5 speakers: Improves clarity and precision of sound.
- 6x9 speakers: Great performance for a large range of frequencies.
Now that you know what speakers might fit your needs, there are some tried and true tips to keep in mind before buying your new speakers:
- Always check the size of the speakers already installed in your car—opting for a speaker that is the same size as what you currently have is an easy choice.
- Measure the speaker itself by measuring from one of the holes on the speaker frame to the hole diagonally across from it.
