What size of hail will damage my car?

How big does hail have to be to cause damage to a car? I normally park on the street, but we have hail in the forecast this week and I’m worried about my car. Should I pay for a parking garage?

Normally, hail won’t cause too much damage to your car until it reaches the size of a quarter or about one inch in diameter. If the forecast is calling for hail, though, it’s probably better to play it safe and find a garage to park your car.
If your car does suffer some
hail damage
, you’ll probably have to bring it to a body shop for repairs if you want to get rid of the marks. This process can be costly, since the average price of dent removal is $125 to $325 per dent. As such, it’s often less expensive to find a safe place to park your car until the storm passes.
