What side is the brake on in a car?

My brother says that all cars—even those sold in England, where people drive on the left side of the road—have the pedals in the same order, with the brake pedal on the left, and the gas pedal to the right. Is this true? What side is the brake on in a car?

This is such a great question! Your brother is correct: the brake pedal is to the left of the gas pedal, whether the car is sold in the US or UK.
Now, when you have a clutch, that pedal will be to the left of the brake pedal. An easy way to remember the order of pedals in a car with a manual transmission—from left to right—is CBA:
  • C = Clutch pedal
  • B = Brake pedal
  • A = Accelerator (gas) pedal
