What should you do before driving in the mountains?

I plan to go watch the sunrise in the mountains and propose to my partner. This is my first time driving in the mountains. Is there anything I should do to prepare the car before heading out?

Mountain roads can be intimidating, but with a little prep, they don’t have to be. Here are some tips to prepare your car before driving in the mountains:
  • Check your fluids: If your fluids are low, you can risk running into issues. Make an appointment with your mechanic to check the transmission fluid and brake fluid—they may need to be flushed or topped off.
  • Check your tires: Mountain road conditions can be unpredictable, so ensure your tires are in good condition to optimize your traction. Check to see if there is enough tire tread and sufficient air pressure. Also, look for any bulging or punctures in the tire. If needed, change the tires to match your season.
  • Pack your car: It’s always better to be safe than sorry, so pack
    emergency supplies
, such as a first aid kit, blanket, water, and snacks.
Consider reviewing your insurance policy before driving in the mountains, as well! Roadside assistance and comprehensive coverage would be beneficial additions to your policy if you don’t already have them. You can find
