What should I do when driving behind a motorcycle?

I took my driving test more than 10 years ago. I don’t remember reading anything about how to drive when motorcycles are around. I’ve been seeing more of them, so I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing. What should I do when I’m behind a motorcycle?

Brushing up on your knowledge is a great way to
stay safe on the road
. When driving behind a motorcycle, employ these safety tips:
  • Allow the motorcyclist to use the entirety of the lane.
  • Give them two seconds’ worth of extra space or several car lengths. Extend this space if the road is windy, you’re going fast, or the weather is poor.
  • Check your blind spots frequently. Many motorcyclists travel in groups and not all of them drive safely. Moreover, they may try to pass you if they get separated, so be on the lookout.
  • Use your turn signals and other driving indicators.
If you follow these rules, you should be just fine when driving behind a motorcycle.
