What percentage of people lease cars instead of buying?

Several of my friends have talked about how much they prefer leasing over buying a car, but I'm not sure if this is the right decision for me, or how many people on a larger scale are leasing vehicles. How many Americans lease cars?

Great question! Leasing a car isn’t the most popular choice in the U.S.: as of late 2020, only about27% of new vehicles were being leased instead of purchased.
Leasing is often unpopular because you never actually own the vehicle, you have to pay for full coverage
car insurance
, and you may be subject to a mandatory down payment.
However, leasing also allows you to have the newest car of your choice. It will also allow you to do a
lease swap
, which is generally more convenient than selling a car that you own.
If you do choose to lease a car, you should make sure that you’re getting the best deal possible on your full coverage. If you want to find the best deal easily, check out
