What percentage of new car sales are electric?

I’m seeing car brands come out with more and more new electric car models, so I’m curious. Are people actually buying more electric cars than in the past?

In years past, electric vehicles (EVs) have made up less than 3% of new car sales in the U.S, even dipping below 1% in 2017 and earlier. In 2021, though, new
EV sales
jumped up to 7.2% of global car sales, over doubling percentages from 2019. ** **In the U.S., the numbers for 2021 showed battery EV sales take up 3% of sales, with hybrid cars taking up another 5%. These percentages will likely continue to increase, though they are nowhere close to those of countries leading the pack. Norway is currently leading EV sales by a mile, with 58% of new car sales coming from EVs in 2019. Iceland follows them with 18% in 2019, Sweden coming behind them in third with 11%. Many countries have started looking to EVs, many of them making goals to raise their percentages of new EV sales. The U.S. wants 50% of new cars sales to be EVs by 2030, and others are looking for sales to be all-electric by 2035. If you’re thinking about hopping on the EV train, try using the
