What national forests are in West Virginia?

My fiancee and I are planning a fall hiking trip close to home for our honeymoon. We’d like to stay in or near West Virginia, if possible. Are there any national forests in West Virginia?

You’ll find plenty of places to hike in wild and wonderful
West Virginia
, including two large swaths of national forest land. These include:
  • Monongahela National Forest: This enormous national forest includes 900,000 acres of land divided into 10 wildlife management areas in east-central West Virginia.
  • George Washington and Thomas Jefferson National Forest: The combined George Washington and Thomas Jefferson National Forest stretches from eastern West Virginia into western Virginia.
Both forests include dozens of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. However, your options aren’t limited to national forests. West Virginia is also home to seven state forests, including:
