What national forests are in North Carolina?

I’m visiting family in North Carolina for two weeks and would love to explore some surrounding landscapes. My family has always been big outdoors people—what national forests can we visit?

Exploring the outdoors in
North Carolina
sounds like a great idea! There are five national forests in North Carolina—Cherokee, Croatan, Nantahala, Pisgah, and Uwharrie.
  • Cherokee National Forest
  • Croatan National Forest
  • Nantahala National Forest
  • Pisgah National Forest
  • Uwharrie National Forest
And the best part about visiting the national forests is there are endless activities to do! Here are some ideas:
  • Hiking
  • Camping
  • Biking
  • Swimming
  • Kayaking or canoeing
  • Bird watching
  • Fishing
  • Rafting
Sorting out your itinerary for which park to visit and what to do is the exciting part of travel, but make sure you take care of the less-exciting stuff, too—like your car insurance. When you’re on the road for extended periods, make sure you have a good policy that keeps you protected no matter where you are.
