What national forests are in Minnesota?

My wife and I will be driving through Minnesota on the way to Montana. Neither of us has seen any of the state, and we’d love to check out the national forests—which ones can we stop at?

Minnesota
is home to just two national forests—Chippewa National Forest and Superior National Forest.
You’ll find Chippewa National Forest in Cass Lake, about 3.5 hours north of
Minneapolis
. It was the first national forest established east of the Mississippi River in 1908.
Although it was initially called Minnesota National Forest, the name was changed in 1928 to honor the original inhabitants—the Forest and Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. Their goal is to offer visitors a chance to experience Anishinabe culture.
On the other hand, Superior National Forest is part of the United States National Forest system. It’s located in the Arrowhead Region between the Canada–United States border and the north shore of Lake Superior. It’s actually one of the top 10 most-visited national forests in the country.
Superior is known for its vast remote settings and more than one million acres of Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Plenty of wildlife and plants inhabit the grounds, but it’s known for housing nearly half a million acres of surface water.
