Volkswagen
offers a limited warranty for new cars that lasts for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. The German automaker reduced the length of its limited warranty in 2021 from 6 years or 72,000 miles. To compensate for the reduction, Volkswagen added 2 years or 20,000 miles of ‘carefree maintenance’, which includes two free annual service inspections and oil changes.
Other key points of the new four-year limited warranty are:
Battery—3 years / 36,000 miles
Corrosion perforation—7 years / 100,000 miles
Brake pads—1 year / 12,000 miles
Halogen and Xenon bulbs—3 years / 36,000 miles
Other bulbs—1 year / 12,000 miles
Paint—3 years / 36,000 miles
Mechanical adjustments—1 year / 12,000 miles
Roadside assistance—3 years / 36,000 miles
Key fob battery—1 year / 12,000 miles
Wiper blades—1 year / 12,000 miles (6 months / 6,000 miles for wear and tear)
Wheel and tire balance—Upon initial customer inspection
While the time length of the warranty has been reduced, the scope of coverage is still quite good. Regular maintenance is important to keep your cost of car ownership low, and maintenance covered by a warranty goes a long way to save you money.
