What kind of oil does a 2011 GMC Terrain take?

I recently switched mechanics, and my new guy is using a different oil for my car. I am not sure if he (or my old mechanic) is using the right thing. What kind of oil does a 2011 GMC Terrain take?

It is important to make sure you are always using the right oil for your engine, so kudos for checking!
The correct engine oil for your 2011 GMC Terrain depends on your engine type.
  • The GMC Terrain LYX 1.5L turbo engine, uses SAE 0W-20 engine oil.
  • The GMC Terrain LTG 2.0L turbo engine, use SAE 5W-30 engine oil.
Keep in mind that if the temperature where you live falls below -20 °F, you’ll want to use SAE 0W-30 viscosity grade engine oil.
If you choose a conventional oil, you will want to change the oil every 3,000-5,000 miles, but if you are using a synthetic oil, you can change it every 7,500-10,000 miles. Synthetic oil costs a bit more than conventional, but with fewer oil changes needed, you will save money in the long run.
