What kind of credit do you need to get a good rate for auto insurance?

I finally saved up enough to buy a car in cash. My credit history is terrible, but I have been working really hard to improve it. I need insurance for the state of California. Will I be eligible for a policy?

“Turning around a low credit score isn’t easy; kudos on all your hard work!
I have great news for you: California does not use credit score as a rating factor for automobile insurance. Ratings in California are more focused on the following factors:
  • Age and driving experience
  • Annual mileage
  • Driving history
  • Vehicle
  • Coverage level
If your car is an older model and does not need physical damage coverage, get quotes for liability coverage only. This will help keep even more money in your pocket. “
