What is tunnel vision when driving?

I’m taking driver’s ed at my high school. My teacher keeps talking about the importance of reducing tunnel vision while you’re behind the wheel, but I have no idea what that means. What’s the definition of tunnel vision when driving?

Your teacher is smart to preach about the dangers of tunnel vision. Tunnel vision is a condition that happens while you’re driving that limits your peripheral sight. When this happens, you might feel like you’re looking through a tube or down a tunnel—hence the name.
Tunnel vision can happen at any time, but those with poor vision may experience it more readily than those with 20/20 vision. Other known factors that contribute to tunnel vision include:
  • Age
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Concussion or stroke
  • Headaches and migraines
If you want to limit tunnel vision, here are a few
safe driving tips
you can use:
  • Take frequent breaks if traveling longer distances.
  • Wear glasses if you need them.
  • Travel at or below the posted speed limit.
  • Use sunglasses or a sun visor when necessary.
  • Avoid driving at night.
While you can limit your tunnel vision when driving, you should still carry the proper amount of car insurance coverage to protect yourself. But don’t just pay the first rate that you’re quoted. Instead, use the
