What is traffic on Interstate 10 like?

I’ve always wanted to go to California. The only problem is that I live in Jacksonville, Florida. Still, I think I’m going to take about a month to do a road trip. I just want to know what I’m getting myself into, so what’s the traffic like on Interstate 20?

Stretching 2,460 miles, Interstate 10 is the fifth-longest interstate in the U.S. Since you’re going from Jacksonville,
Florida
to
California
, you can take I-10 the entire way. Traffic on Interstate 10 varies, with congestion occurring around New Orleans, Houston, San Antonio, Phoenix, and Los Angeles.
Although
Los Angeles
is probably your destination, you can bypass other cities as follows:
  • Take I-12 and reconnect with I-10 to avoid
    New Orleans traffic
  • Hop on I-610 to avoid traffic in
    Houston
  • Use I-410 to bypass
    San Antonio
traffic, that is, unless you want to eat dinner on the Riverwalk
  • Phoenix doesn’t have a great bypass, but you can take AZ-101 or AZ-202 to avoid rush hour
Since you’re going to travel nearly 5,000 miles round-trip on Interstate 10, adding
towing and labor coverage
to your car insurance policy is a no-brainer. Use the
