What is the Utah blood alcohol limit?

I’m going to visit a friend in Utah and I’m going to drive. We’re going to visit a few craft breweries, so I was thinking about driving, as I don’t tend to drink too much. However, I’ve heard that Utah has lower qualifications for a DUI—what’s the blood alcohol limit in Utah?

It’s great that you get to visit your friend! The
Utah
blood alcohol limit is only .05, making it the strictest limit in the entire country. If you’re going to hop around craft breweries, taking a rideshare is probably the better option, as just one or two drinks can result in a DUI in the Beehive State.
If you receive a DUI in Utah, you can face major penalties, including:
  • Minimum 48 hours of jail time
  • $700 minimum in fines, not including court costs
  • Minimum license suspension of 120 days
These penalties can also increase if you get an enhanced DUI, which is any blood alcohol content of .16 or higher.
Hopefully, you never have to worry about a DUI in Utah, but if you do, your car insurance rates are likely to increase drastically.
