My next-door neighbor has a Pontiac Grand Prix for sale. It’s one of the last that rolled off the assembly line, but it’s the base model, not the GTP. I was thinking about buying it for my daily driving, but I want to make sure it has a bit of speed behind it. What is the top speed of the Pontiac Grand Prix?

While the
Grand Prix GTP
is the faster of the two models, the base model Pontiac Grand Prix
still has a top speed of 126 mph—or at least it did in its final years of production.The key to the speed of the Pontiac Grand Prix is a 3.8-liter V6 that produces 200 horsepower and up to 230 pound-feet of torque paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. While the top speed is a nice addition, the Grand Prix also offers a 0-60 mph time of just 8.8 seconds, which allows a little bit of acceleration off the line.
If you’re going to use the Grand Prix as an everyday car, you’ll be pleased to know that the model gets 30 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg in the city, which isn’t too shabby considering the size of the engine.
