What is the New York speed limit?

I’m going on a road trip to New York City to visit a friend. After I pick her up, we’re thinking about visiting some of the bigger attractions like the Finger Lakes and Niagara Falls. I just want to know what the speed limit is so I can prepare for the trip—what is the speed limit in New York?

The
New York
speed limit is a maximum of 65 mph, but only on certain stretches of the interstate.
Other speed limits in the state vary depending on where you’re driving and the population or traffic in the area:
  • 55 mph on urban stretches of the interstate
  • 55 mph on New York State Highways outside of urban areas
  • 30 mph to 45 mph within city limits, as posted
Traveling at or below the speed limit should eliminate the chance of a speeding ticket, but for some added peace of mind, add
towing and labor coverage
to your car insurance policy. This provides roadside assistance no matter where you are. So whether you want to add this coverage or review quotes before you head out on your trip, use the
