What is the Iowa speed limit?

I’m taking a trip through the Midwest and I’m going through Iowa for a few days. I already have a few speeding tickets on my record, so I don’t want to add any more. What’s the speed limit in Iowa?

If you’re traveling through the Hawkeye State, take note that the
Iowa
speed limit is 70 mph. This only applies to rural stretches of the interstate, so take care if you’re passing through
Cedar Rapids
,
Des Moines
, or
Iowa City
, as the speed limit may go down as low as 55 mph.
Some of the other speed limits in Iowa are:
  • 65 mph on some multi-lane, divided highways
  • 50 mph to 55 mph on secondary roads, including state highways and county roads
  • 45 mph in any suburban district
  • 25 mph in residential areas and school zones
  • 20 mph in any business district
