What is the Honda Civic’s ECON mode?
I just bought a Honda Civic, and I noticed a little green button that says ECON on it. What does it do?

Hondas are great vehicles, and the manufacturer has done a lot to improve vehicle efficiency—one of those things is the Honda Civic’s ECON mode.
Honda’s ECON mode makes the following adjustments to your vehicle’s performance:
- adjusts the throttle response
- limits the shifting behavior
- reduces A/C system capacity
- reduces the fuel injection to increase fuel efficiency
Though ECON mode is a great feature on your Honda Civic, there’s a time and a place for it. You should use ECON mode when:
- cruising on the highway
- driving in the city under normal conditions
- driving across flat terrain
- the weather is not overly hot
You should not use ECON mode at any time when you might need your Civic to perform at its peak—like when you’re entering the highway or driving on hilly terrain.
