What is the grace period for expired tags in Ohio?

With four kids, I always have a lot on my plate. So when I noticed my tags were about to expire on my car, I panicked a bit. Is there a grace period for expired tags in Ohio?

Contrary to popular belief,
Ohio
doesn’t have a grace period for expired tags. Once your
vehicle registration
expires, a police officer can cite you for expired tags.
If you’re pulled over for expired tags and issued a ticket, the fine is $150. Due to Ohioans failing to renew their tags, the state also passed a law in 2021 that makes driving with expired tags a misdemeanor charge, which goes on your permanent record.
The best plan is to avoid driving your car for now, get an appointment at the BMV, and renew your tags. Have a friend or family member take you if necessary. Getting a ticket for expired tags just isn’t worth the risk.
