What is the driving age in Georgia?

I have two teenagers who are both eager to learn to drive. What exactly is the legal driving age in Georgia?

Congrats on having two teenagers who are eager to conquer the next big milestone! The legal driving age in
Georgia
is 18—at least, that’s when you’re eligible for your full license. However, Peach State teens can apply for an instructional permit as young as 15 years old.
Getting your instructional permit is the first step to getting out on the open road. You’re allowed to apply for your permit at the age of 15, and having a learner’s permit allows you to practice driving with another licensed driver in the vehicle.
If you’re under the age of 18, you must have your permit for at least one year before you can get a license. However, once you turn sixteen, you can get your Class D provisional license so long as you meet a few additional requirements:
  • Pass a driving exam
  • Successfully complete a Georgia Department of Driver Services-approved driver’s education course
  • Have had your permit for at least one year
  • Log at least 40 hours of supervised driving, including at least six hours of nighttime driving
Class D provisional licenses do come with a few restrictions. For example, drivers are not allowed to drive between the hours of 12:00 pm and 5:00 am and the number of passengers allowed in the car will be limited.
Once your teens get out on the road, you’ll want to make sure the cars they’re driving are covered with top-quality
car insurance
. But don’t just add your children to your current car insurance policy without shopping around—let
