What is the definition of car safety?

What does car safety entail? I know that car safety is important when you purchase a vehicle, but I'm not sure what it actually means.

“Car safety is an all-encompassing term that defines everything that helps you avoid accidents or mitigate damage in the event of an accident.
Components of car safety include:
  • Advanced safety features such as lane-keep assist or adaptive cruise control
  • Air bags
  • Anti-lock brakes
  • Seat belts
In addition to car safety, you can also have supplemental products that can keep you safe such as
car insurance
or
medical payments
. Although these technically aren’t car safety items in themselves, they are part of the all-encompassing process to keep you and your vehicle safe.
