What is the curfew for teen drivers in South Carolina?
I told my girlfriend I could drive her home after a party this weekend, but I just realized it’s going to wrap up after midnight. I’m 16, so I’m not sure if I’m allowed to drive that late. Is there a curfew for drivers under 18 in South Carolina?

Your girlfriend may have to find another safe way home from the party. The curfew for teen drivers in
South Carolina
is 6 p.m. standard time or 8 p.m. during daylight saving time for those carrying a conditional license. However, if your parent or guardian sits shotgun, you can drive after midnight without getting a ticket.Or if your girlfriend doesn’t mind leaving the party a bit early, you are allowed to drive from 6:00 p.m. to midnight if there is another licensed driver over the age of 21 with one year of driving experience in the car with you.
It can be tempting to just risk it and drive anyway, but if you’re caught driving after hours you could face the following penalties:
- A misdemeanor on your record
- A $100 fine or up to 30 days in jail
- Your parent or guardian may also be fined up to $500
- If you have six traffic violation points, your license will be suspended for six months
- May delay your ability to get your full license
