What is the curfew for teen drivers in New Jersey?

I’m 17 and just got my license. Football season is starting soon and since I’m on the team, I’ll be playing a lot of night games. Do I need to worry about violating a curfew for teen drivers in New Jersey?

It’s exciting to get your
license
, but there are a lot of rules to remember too. The curfew for teen drivers in
New Jersey
is from 11:01 p.m. to 5 a.m.. But you may be able to drive beyond curfew hours if you have valid documentation that you’re attending a religious or school activity.
Under New Jersey’s Graduated Driver License (GDL) law,
teen drivers
must hold a
probationary license
. If you have no infractions after one year and are 18 or over, you can upgrade to a graduated driver’s license.
A probationary license means you must follow certain rules—like the driving curfew. Other restrictions include:
  • Only one passenger is allowed in the vehicle unless there’s a parent or guardian present or the passenger is the teen’s child(ren)
  • Use of a mobile electronic device is prohibited—even if it’s being used hands-free
  • Everyone in the car must be wearing
    seat belts
  • State-issued GDL decals must be displayed on any vehicle the teen drives
