You should be excited—this is a major time of growth in your daughter’s life! Luckily, we can help with those pesky rules.
The curfew for minors driving in Washington
state is 1 a.m. More specifically, teenagers under age 18 with an intermediate driver’s license are not prohibited to drive between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. without approved supervision. Washington law does allow teens to break this curfew, however, as long as one of the following is accompanying the minor while driving:
A licensed adult who is at least 25 years old
However, having a parent, guardian, or qualified adult in the car does not excuse the minor from the following restrictions:
No passengers below the age of 20 besides immediate family members for the first six months
No more than three passengers below the age of 20 besides immediate family members for the next six months
As long as your young driver follows all these requirements, she should have no problem graduating to her full license after 12 months when she’s 17. Just don’t forget to add her to your car insurance! Jerry
