The cheapest GMC is the GMC Canyon
, which starts at $26,800. Earning a 7/10 rating from Car and Driver, the Canyon is a midsize pickup truck with a base towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. The standard 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine isn’t as strong as the optional V6 upgrade—but if you don’t need a lot of speed or extra towing capability, sticking to the base engine will keep the price down.
The Canyon’s fuel efficiency is about average for its size, getting around 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The interior isn’t posh, but the instrument panels are large and easy to read. There’s plenty of legroom for the driver and front-seat passenger, but rear passengers are admittedly going to be a bit cramped.
Infotainment includes a touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Canyon doesn’t offer much in the way of driver-assistance technology, but you can add a basic Driver Alert Package that includes forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and rear parking sensors for an extra cost.
