What is the best year for a used Toyota Corolla?

I’m in the market for a used car, and I hear the Toyota Corolla is a popular choice. Which model year is the best Toyota Corolla?

You’re right, the Toyota Corolla is the most popular car in the world—and its best years were from 2014 to 2019.
The Corollas of the late 2010s were excellent cars, scoring high on dependability and safety. J.D. Power gave the 2018 Corolla an 83/100 reliability rating, while the NHTSA bestowed it with a five-star safety rating. The IIHS also awarded the 2018 Toyota Corolla with a Top Safety Pick award.
But that’s not the only good crop of Corollas. The 2005 to 2008 Corolla models rate highly for dependability, with J.D. Power giving the Toyota compact sedan an 82/100 rating for reliability. RepairPal gives the Corolla similar high praise with a 4.5 out of 5.0 dependability rating—noting that the average annual cost of repair for the ‘08 iteration is just $296
However, every good car still has bad days, and there are some Corolla years to avoid. For example, the 2002 Corolla used excessive amounts of engine oil, and the 2003 model suffered a rash of transmission failures.
Owning even a used Corolla comes with a price. Car insurance for a Toyota Corolla costs a little more than the national average, coming in at about $1,983 a year. The best way to get cheap car insurance is to shop around and compare car insurance quotes online.
