What is the best route to the Outer Banks from Pittsburgh?

My family and I live in Pittsburgh and we want to take a trip to the Outer Banks. What is the best route to take if we want to get there the fastest?

Love the Outer Banks! If you’re going for speed, the best route to the Outer Banks from
Pittsburgh
is to take I-76 and then I-95 for the rest of the way.
Let’s discuss the route in greater detail:
  • First, you’ll want to take I-579 S and then I-376 E from Boulevard of the Allies
  • Next you’ll want to merge onto I-76. You’ll be on this for about 105 miles.
  • Look for signs to merge onto I-70 E, then I-270 S, and then I-495 S.
  • Then merge onto I-95 S. You’ll be on this for about 80 miles.
  • Finish up the trip by taking NC-168 S, US-158 E, and NC-12 S.
And voila! You’re in the Outer Banks,
North Carolina
.
