My girlfriend and I are taking a cross-country road trip to visit her family in Michigan, starting from Arizona. We would love to check out some of the cities and sites along the way. What’s the best route to drive?

The best route from Arizona to Michigan follows I-40 E and I-44 E. The trip takes about 29 hours without stops and covers 1,929 miles. While there are several routes you can take across the country, this one offers some great places to visit along the way.
Here’s how to get from Arizona to Michigan:
- Head northeast on Nf-416 toward Nf-157
- Turn left onto AZ-288 N
- Turn onto AZ-277 N
- Turn left onto AZ-377 N
- Turn left onto AZ-77 N
- Turn right onto the ramp to Albuquerque/Keams Canyon
- Merge onto I-40 E
- Continue onto I-40 E/U.S. Rte 66
- Keep right at the fork to continue on I-35 N/US-62 E, follow signs for Tulsa/Wichita
- Take exit 138A for I-44 E toward Tulsa
- Use the right 2 lanes to take the I-44 E/OK-66 E exit toward Joplin
- Continue onto I-44 E
- Keep left to stay on I-44 E, follow signs for I-55 N/Downtown/Illinois
- Use the right 2 lanes to take exit 291A to merge onto I-55 N/I-64 E/US-40 E toward I-70 E/Illinois
- Keep left to continue on I-55 N/I-64 E
- Take exit 250A to merge onto I-80 E toward Indiana
- Keep left to continue on I-80 E/I-94 E
- Merge onto I-196 N/US-31 N via the ramp to Holland
- Take exit 77A on the left to merge onto US-131 N toward Cadillac
- Take exit 176 for M-115/M-55 toward Manistee/Frankfort/Clare
- Continue on M-115 W. Drive to 30 Rd in Boon
You’ll pass through
Dallas

, Louisville
, Santa Fe
, and Kansas City
