I’m having problems with the engine overheating in my 5.7 Hemi Dodge Ram. I asked a friend of mine who’s more knowledgeable with cars to take a look, and he told me the oil filter probably needs to be replaced. What’s the best oil filter for my car?

Choosing the right oil filter for your
Dodge Ram
may be as simple as checking your car’s owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s recommendations—or it may be a more complicated process of trial and error. No two engines are the same—not even 5.7 Hemis!—so you’ll need to think more specifically about your driving needs when selecting the best filter. Where do you do most of your driving? What do you primarily use your car for? What kind of engine oil do you buy? Answering these questions can help you narrow down an oil filter with the features you need.
Some other factors to consider when choosing an oil filter include:
*Size**. To maintain your car’s proper oil pressure, you’ll want a filter that fits your engine.
*Capture efficiency*. The average, aftermarket oil filter should have a capture efficiency of at least 95% at 40 microns. Anything above that is better—but 95% is the standard minimum.
**Dirt-holding capacity*. If you take your Ram off-roading or live in a dryer, dusty area, a filter with a larger dirt-holding capacity will last you longer.
