What is the best driving route from Los Angeles to Seattle?

What is the best way to drive from Los Angeles to Seattle? I need a week to get away from the heat and dirt and Seattle seems like my kind of place.

Los Angeles
may have its perks, but heat and dirt are never a good combo. Luckily, I-5 North is a direct connection from LA to
Seattle
. However, if you have a few extra hours to spare, we think the best driving route from Los Angeles to Seattle takes a little detour. Here are the details:
  • Hop on US-101 N in LA to start heading towards the Bay Area.
  • You can either stay on US-101 or switch to CA-1 N to more closely follow the coast.
  • Transfer to I-80 E in
    San Francisco
    , then take I-505 N to get onto I-5 N, OR
  • Continue on US-101 or CA-1 N through wine country, then take US-199 N to connect with I-5 N in
    Oregon
This route can take anywhere from 17 to 28 hours depending on the detours you take. Make sure you plan some stops along the way, and that you have
towing and labor coverage
on your
car insurance
policy for a stress-free journey.
