What is the best driving route from Chicago to Niagara Falls, Canada?

I really want to take my family on a trip to Niagara Falls, but crossing the Canadian border is confusing me. What is the best way to drive from Chicago to Niagara Falls, Canada?

Oh, Canada! This is a fun trip—but crossing the border can be intimidating. The best driving route from
Chicago
to Niagara Falls crosses the American-Canadian border in
Detroit
and takes between 8 and 9 hours of driving time, depending on
traffic
. Here are the route details:
  • Take I-90 E out of Chicago (or I-94 E if you want to avoid tolls).
  • Merge onto I-94 E in
    Indiana
  • Depending on traffic, transfer to M-14 E in
    Ann Arbor, MI
which will turn into I-96 E.
  • Once in Detroit, take I-96 E to the Ambassador Bridge and cross into Canada.
  • Continue on ON-3 until it turns into ON-401 E.
  • Transfer to ON-403 E then take the exit to follow Lincoln M Alexander Pkwy/Red Hill Valley Pkwy.
  • Merge onto Queen Elizabeth Way and take this to your destination!
The Motor City is a great place to stop for the night if you want to break up the trip. Just make sure to check your
