What is the best BMW driving mode for snow?
I drive a BMW and am planning on visiting family in Maine next week—the only problem is that they recently got a lot of snow and I don’t know how well my car can handle it. What is the best BMW driving mode for snow?

There are several driving modes offered on various
BMW
vehicles that are suitable for snow, but the best ultimately depends on which modes you have.In most BMWs, the best mode for snow will be “Dynamic Traction Control,” which is similar to “Dynamic Stability Control,” but prioritizes forward momentum. When activated, DTC will provide maximum traction, allowing you to better navigate snow-covered roads.
Another BMW driving mode proven to work in snow—and one available on most modern models—is the “Eco Pro” mode, because it reduces wheel spin, limits acceleration, and makes upshifting slower. To get the most out of this mode, however, you’ll need to turn its “coasting” function off, as it reduces your stopping power.
The best BMW driving mode for snow is the “xSNOW” mode, offered on certain BMW vehicles with an xDrive all-wheel drive system and the upgraded xOffroad package. When engaged, this mode restricts the accelerator pedal and makes shifting gears gentler, allowing you to have more control on wet, slippery, or snow-covered roads.
Keep in mind, however, that driving modes will only get you so far—if you want your BMW to handle snow well, you’ll need to invest in a good set of winter tires. Michelin, Bridgestone, and Cooper all make excellent winter tires for BMWs, so we suggest you start there.
