What is the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 oil type?

My 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 is still kicking, but it’s coming up on 10,000 miles, and I need to change the oil. What kind should I buy?

Regular maintenance scheduling is one of the best ways to prolong the life of your vehicle, and if you’re approaching 10,000 miles, it’s definitely time for an oil change! The 2008
Dodge Ram 1500
with a 3.7 L or 5.7 L engine will need W-30 synthetic oil. That said, the outside temperature can influence what viscosity grade your vehicle needs. If the air temperature is above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, you can use a 10W-30 oil, but the 5W-30 grade is still preferred. The 3.6 L V6 engine requires 5 quarts, and the 5.7L V8 requires 7 quarts.
On top of changing your Ram’s oil, you may also want to consider inspecting the following if you’re at 10,000 miles:
  • Oil filter change
  • Tire rotation
  • Wiper fluid
  • Tire air pressure
At 20,000 miles, you may also want to consider:
  • Oil and oil filter change
  • Cabin air filter replacement
  • Tie rod ends and front suspension inspection
  • Brake lining inspection
