What is the 2005 Ford Taurus’s oil type?
I just got a great deal on a 2005 Ford Taurus. I don’t want to put a lot of money into it, so I’m going to do my own oil changes. What type of oil does it need?

The 2005 Ford Taurus’s oil type is Synthetic Motor Oil 5W-20. You’ll need about 4.5 quarts to do a complete oil change, so a five-quart jug of motor oil should be more than enough for your Taurus.
If this is your first time doing an oil change, make sure you reference your manual to keep up with a routine maintenance schedule. Here’s a general idea of when you should change your oil:
- Under normal driving conditions: Change your oil every 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first
- Under severe driving conditions: Change your oil every 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first
- Whenever your Oil Change Light is illuminated: Change your oil as soon as possible or take your Taurus in for a check-up if the light continues to activate after a full oil change
